Tallahassee Community Healing Coalition promotes the mental health and well-being of the African American community through culturally-based activities and discussions. Community Healing Days™ was established by the Community Healing Network (CHN) in New Haven, CT, in 2006. TCHC was formed in 2012 to answer the call to put “time for healing” on the Black community’s agenda. We are a grassroots volunteer organization that relies on community sponsors for our support. Our annual event is held on the third weekend of every October to serve as a catalyst for the establishment of year-round healing programs.

Our vision is a world in which all Black people have moved beyond surviving to flourishing, and are enjoying life in all its fullness, in body, mind, and spirit.
Our mission is to mobilize Black people residing in the Big Bend of Florida to heal from the trauma caused by centuries of anti-Black racism, to free ourselves of toxic stereotypes, and to reclaim our dignity and humanity as people of African ancestry
Our values are derived from the principles of Ma’at, Ubuntu, and the Nguzo Saba:
Truth
Justice
Order
Reciprocity
Harmony
Balance
Righteousness
Unity
Self-Determination
Collective Work & Responsibility
Cooperative Economics
Purpose
Creativity
Faith
Our goals include promoting:
Conversations that defy the lie of “Black inferiority”
“Time for healing” on the Black community’s agenda
African cultural practices
Family cohesion
Youth resilience
Sustainable Black communities
Our programs are free or low-cost for all attendees and encourage community conversations about issues of relevance:
Black Mental Health Book Club
Emotional Emancipation Circles
Healing Circle discussions (food insecurity, family rituals, and community violence, etc.)
We have also held individual workshops on various topics to support Black community-building:
Cultural artistic expression (African dance, dramatic presentations, films, essays, etc.)
Holistic healing practices (Yoga, Muay Thai, Tai Chi, meditation, massage therapy, etc.)
Mental health (art therapy, stress-reduction, coping skills)
Sustainability workshops (gardening, environmental justice, history of agriculture, etc.)
For 12 years we have offered these programs to our community most often through the vehicle of Tallahassee Community Healing Days. Our goal is to independently fund Tallahassee Community Healing Days and expand our offerings to year-round programming.
Please make a tax-deductible donation to assist us with the expenses required to host this three-day culturally based intervention. By donating funds, you will become a co-sponsor or event supporter. Donations may be made to Citizens for a Sustainable Future (note: Tallahassee Community Healing Days): https://secure.anedot.com/csf-healing-days-donation/chd. Other forms of support would also be greatly appreciated: provide in-kind contributions (space, materials, etc.) and disseminate information about our events.
This is your chance to invest in a meaningful project that aims to rebuild the social infrastructure of the African American community in Tallahassee, and we thank you in advance for your support.
